Hello Willow Creek Residents,

Over past few weeks we have had numerous sightings of some coyotes roaming through the neighbourhood (Thanks Perry and Tonya for the pictures!).

Living in a rural community, wildlife comes with the territory. So with this in mind, "it is important to know how to co-exist with these animals to minimize conflict and ensure the safety of residents, pets, livestock, and wildlife alike."

Preventing Problems with Wildlife:
  • Removing food sources by securing garbage, feed and pet food (including bird feeders) inside the home or in a sealed container,
  • Eliminating locations for homes and hideouts by keeping the yard clean of debris at all times and by regularly maintaining and inspecting the property and its structures, and
  • Taking the time to talk with your children and familiarize yourself about what to do if you encounter a wild animal.

For information on what to do if you encounter a coyote, here is a link to Alberta Fish and Wildlife with some great information (especially if you have kids!)

There is some additional information from the Rockyview MD website county on wildlife that is also available:

And one final note - Call a Fish and Wildlife officer through the Report-A Poacher line at 1-800-642-3800:

  • If you see a coyote that is so sick or injured it can't move
  • If a coyote is behaving aggressively toward people, such as nipping or biting

It has been brought to our attention, once again, that a contractor has made a decision that vacant lots within Willow Creek are an ideal location to dispose of construction waste.

As our community continues to grow, we would like to ask all residents to keep your eyes and ears open for any suspicious activities.

If you are in the build phase of a home in Willow Creek, please take a moment to ask your contractor to keep an eye out for illegal disposal of construction waste on empty lots. We have seen in the past that contractors have come in from outside the community to dispose of such things, and would like to believe that the contractors working directly in Willow Creek do not participate in this act.

If you witness any illegal dumping or other undesirable acts please contact the MD of Rocky View Bylaw Enforcement at 403-230-1401.

Call 911 for immediate emergency assistance such as fire, ambulance and police services.

The maintenance service levels in Willow Creek have been identified as:

  • Level B – For Open Spaces, and
  • Level 2 – For trails and pathways

  • Willow Creek Garbage Removal Provider is Changing

    GFL Environmental Waste Removal Corp will be providing garbage collection services for Willow Creek.

  • Effective February 1st 2016

    This change in service provider is effective February 1st, 2016.

  • Collection bins will be supplied

    Each homeowner will receive two 65 gallon bins. These bins will be dropped of before the end of the month.

  • Mondays before 7AM

    Please have your refuse available curbside in the supplied bins before 7AM on Mondays.

RE: Garbage Removal Service

Dear Owners,

Please be advised that our current garbage contractor “Guardian Waste Removal” has terminated their contract with us effective Jan 31/16. He informed us that he can no longer accommodate the pick-up of waste from our sub-division due to his increased work load.

Therefore, we have made arrangements with a new contractor, “G.F.L. Environmental Waste Removal” to provide this service to us effective Feb 1, 2016. We have negotiated that each homeowner will receive two (2) 65 gallon bins capable of holding up to 3 bags of garbage for a total of 6 bags. The pick-up days will be Mondays and the bins must be put at the curb side by 7:00am on the day of collection. If, after a short trial period, you find you only need one bin, we can arrange for the spare one to be picked up.

Please note: these bins are for household waste only, not “Recycling”. Please do not leave any loose garbage bags out for collection as they will not be picked up if they are not in the bins.

G.F.L. will be dropping off the bins sometime before the end of the month. If you have any problems with the garbage, please contact G.F.L. at dispatchcalgary@gflenv.com.

In addition, we are also in the process of negotiating a special rate for your recycling with the same company. We will be presenting this to you later for your consideration.

You may be wondering where some of the stone address markers with the Willow Creek Logo were manufactured – These were crafted by Kevin Elliot a local stone engraving artist. Kevin’s Company goes by the name Set In Stone, and has numerous stone engraving options available – including the WC Logo.
